CPVC Concealed Valve Guide: Sizes, Wall Depth, Trims and Prices

8 min read

Quick answer: A concealed valve is a shut-off valve built into the wall so that only the handle shows. For a CPVC bathroom we sell them in ½, ¾ and 1 inch from Supreme (₹712 to ₹947), Astral (₹762 to ₹2,090) and Ashirvad (₹820 to ₹2,545), all before GST and checked on 3 November 2026. The choice that matters most is short or long: Ashirvad's long valve is 138 mm tall against 109 mm for the short, so the long one reaches through a thicker plaster and tile build-up. Get that wrong and the handle either disappears into the wall or stands out from it, and the fix is a broken tile.

Concealed valves and concealed diverters are the two parts of a bathroom you cannot change after tiling without breaking the wall. They are cheap compared with the tiles in front of them, so most of this guide is about getting them right the first time. The prices come from our Ashirvad, Astral and Supreme price lists.

Concealed valve, concealed diverter and wall mixer: the difference

  • Concealed valve (concealed stop cock): an on-off valve in the supply line. It usually sits at the bathroom entry so you can shut off that bathroom alone, or on a single line such as the geyser feed. Ashirvad describes its concealed valves as being used to cut off or regulate the supply in the plumbing network, and makes them in CPVC and uPVC, in ½, ¾ and 1 inch.
  • Concealed diverter: a body in the wall that mixes hot and cold and sends the water to the spout or the shower. Only a lever plate shows.
  • Exposed wall mixer: the mixer sits on the wall surface and is fixed to the pipes through a wall mixer adaptor. Covered in our Parryware tap price list.

Size the valve to the pipe it sits on. A ¾ inch line gets a ¾ inch valve; stepping down to ½ inch at the valve throttles the whole bathroom. If you are still choosing pipe sizes, start with our CPVC size chart.

How deep it sits in the wall: short or long

The valve body is solvent welded into the CPVC line inside the wall chase. The spindle comes forward through the plaster and the tile, and the handle sits on the finished surface. What decides short or long is the distance from the centre of the pipe to the face of the finished tile: the plaster over the pipe, plus the tile adhesive, plus the tile.

The manufacturers publish the overall height of each valve, which shows how much more reach the long version gives:

Ashirvad CPVC concealed valve, 1 inch105 mmNot listedAshirvad CPVC technical manual
Astral swept concealed valve, ¾ and 1 inch124 mm155 mmAstral CPVC Pro catalogue

In both brands the long valve gives about 30 mm more reach. Neither catalogue we checked publishes a minimum and maximum wall depth for these valves, so do not guess. Before the wall is plastered, hold the valve in place with a piece of the actual tile and a block the thickness of the plaster in front of it, and check where the handle lands. If the pipe has been chased deep into a block wall, or the wall is getting a thick plaster coat, the long valve is the safe choice. Keep the plastic cap supplied with the valve on until tiling is finished, so no plaster gets into the spindle.

Concealed diverter bodies are thicker. Ashirvad's manual gives 121.5 mm height for both its CPVC diverter bodies, and 137.6 mm length for the shower and spout body against 67.5 mm for the shower-only body. The wall chase must be wide and deep enough for the body before anyone starts plastering.

For a bathroom isolation valve, quarter turn is quicker to shut in a hurry.

CPVC concealed diverters: body and front plate

Ashirvad's CPVC concealed diverter is bought as two items: the body that goes into the wall now, and the front plate (lever and cover) fitted after tiling. The plate names say which body they fit, so order them as a pair.

ItemOur price
Concealed diverter body, shower only, ¾ inch₹2,901
Medium flow diverter body, bath and shower, ¾ inch₹4,371
High flow diverter body, bath and shower, ¾ inch₹5,557
Brass high flow diverter body, bath and shower, ¾ inch₹5,843
Front plate for shower diverter, round₹2,060
Front plate for medium flow diverter, oval₹2,403
Front plate for high flow diverter, round₹3,445

A complete Ashirvad bath and shower diverter at medium flow is therefore ₹4,371 plus ₹2,403, or ₹6,774 before GST. On a weak overhead tank supply, the high flow body is worth the difference: the shower is only ever as strong as the narrowest passage it goes through.

Parryware bodies: which trim goes with which

Parryware sells the concealed body and the visible upper trim separately, and prints the compatible body code on each trim. These are the pairs we carry.

One stop cock trim fits both the ½ and ¾ inch bodies, which Parryware's October 2026 price book states for each trim. Parryware rates its ultra high flow body at 37 litres per minute at 2 bar. The body decides the flow and the function; the trim only decides the look. So fix the body when the wall is open, and choose the series later if you need to. What you cannot do is change the body after tiling, or fit one brand's trim on another brand's body.

Parryware's bodies connect by thread, so in a CPVC line they go in through brass threaded CPVC adaptors, which are covered in our CPVC fittings guide.

The mistakes that force a tile break

  1. Short valve in a deep wall. The handle ends up recessed behind the tile face. Dry-fit with the real tile before plastering.
  2. Valve fixed crooked or at the wrong height. Mark the finished floor level and the tile joints on the wall before the plumber fixes anything, and set the valve square to those lines.
  3. No pressure test before tiling. A joint that weeps inside the wall shows up months later as a damp patch. Test the bathroom with the valves and bodies in place and leave it under pressure before anyone tiles; our guide to pressure testing CPVC before tiling sets out the method.
  4. A uPVC valve on the hot line. uPVC concealed valves look the same and cost less. Ashirvad gives a maximum service temperature of 60°C for its uPVC, which is too close to geyser temperature. Anything on the hot side must be CPVC.
  5. The wrong cement. CPVC joints need CPVC solvent cement; see how to use CPVC solvent cement.
  6. Body and trim from different makers or series that do not match. Check the compatible body code printed on the trim before the body goes in.
  7. Plaster in the spindle. Leave the protective cap on until the tile is finished.

Questions we get asked

Which size of concealed valve do I need?

The same size as the pipe it sits on. Ask your plumber what size the bathroom branch is before you buy.

What is the difference between a short and a long concealed valve?

Reach. The long valve is about 30 mm taller in both Ashirvad's and Astral's figures, for walls with a thicker plaster and tile build-up.
